The 350 million loan agreement that was signed between the EIB’s Vice-President responsible for operations in Italy Malta and the Western Balkans, and Fiat Industrial’s Chairman, was at the center of yesterday’s meeting. The loan aims at encouraging projects that improve energy efficiency in companies and reduce CO2 emissions.

European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science will soon present the latest work programme of the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Development (FP7). This program looks heavy: indeed, the Commission plans to inject 8 billion euro in the research and competitiveness system, one objective being to increase the growth and employment rates. The expected actions include ensuring a non-polluting energy supply, and developing methods of water conservation.

A new dialogue is launched between the European Commission and Southern Mediterranean countries on higher education programmes and policies in order to encourage progress done in these countries following the 2011 Arab Spring.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is funding a « Green Economy » operation in the French Centre region, together with two national banks (Crédit Agricole and Caisse d’Epargne). The envelope amounts to 259 million euro. This operation aims at encouraging project developers to work in the fields of energy generation and energy efficiency, by offering them advantageous interest rates.
