The climate, the economic crisis and trade are some of the issues South African President Jacob Zuma and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will be discussing on Friday when the EU and South Africa meet at summit level.

The agenda includes the economic crisis and preparations ahead of the G20 summit. It is important for them to be in agreement on how the financial institutions should be reformed and that we resist protectionism.

The Presidency will also be represented by the EU’s High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana. In addition to Prime Minister Reinfeldt, Swedish participants will include Minister for International Development Cooperation Ewa Björling.

The visit opens on Thursday in Johannesburg with bilateral talks between Sweden and South Africa. The Prime Minister will also participate at a trade seminar and hold a speech at the University of Witswatersrand, a university which has produced four Nobel Prize Laureates.
