............................................................................................................................................................................................| Integration and Naturalisation tests, the new way to European Citizenship | The main research questions focus on the
reasons for introduction of the obligatory integration requirements, the way in which
they were developed and put into practice and the actual effects of the requirements
for immigrants. Special attention will furthermore be paid to the differences between
integration requirements with a voluntary and a compulsory nature, the relationship
between the different requirements in a Member State and the effects of the
integration or naturalisation requirements for EU citizen residents and their family
members.

 | ............................................................................................................................................................................................| GADEROS | GADEROS is a pilot project under the Growth thematic programme of the 5th Research Framework Programme of the European Union. Together with the Galilei study, it forms part of on-going research work for the Galileo
programme. It is managed by the EU Directorate General for Energy and Transport.
GADEROS will demonstrate the use of GNSS safety-oflife features for defining a satellite-based system to
perform train location for safe railway applications that will be integrated into the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) / European Train Control System (ETCS). The system will offer another
technological approach for train location, mainly for conventional and low-density traffic lines.

 | ............................................................................................................................................................................................| CITER | The objective of this project is the creation of a digital European history textbook base by integration of already existing material with the publishers in the respective countries. The integration is achieved by introducing language independent metadata schemata based on space(locations), time (dates), and thematic categories.
The specific metadata corpuses defined in this project will be:
- A European thematic ontology for history concepts
- A multilingual location corpus
The former will contain thematic categories used in country-specific curricula to arrive at a thematic ontology covering all of Europe. Such an ontology can be used to define a language-independent categorization of content. Further, to be able to identify locations in arbitrary textbooks, a multilingual dataset that includes historic place names is needed and will be compiled. Using these three distinguished metadata aspects of history content will allow us to integrate history textbook resources to compile a European text base. Machine translation facilities in connection with metadata-base browsing can then be used to provide language-independent browsing and text retrieval.
Overall, this project aims at increasing the use of electronic textbooks in a modern classroom scenario. The re-use of content will be increased by using language independent browsing in combination with quality machine translation providing access to foreign language content. Specifically designed educational evaluation scenarios will be used to access the usability in a classroom context, i.e., obtaining a multiperspective view of history but also as a research means for new textbooks.

 | ............................................................................................................................................................................................| For the safeguarding of the authenticity and adaptation to contemporary needs of a distinctive landmark of the walled city of Nicosia and for the sensitive treatment of an Islamic architectural element in a multicultural context. | Built around 1571 by Lala Mustafa Pasha, the first Ottoman administrator of Cyprus, the baths suffered from extreme lack of maintenance. The exterior render of the domes had severely deteriorated, resulting in water infiltration, decay of stones and mortar, penetration of vegetation, corrosion of embedded iron elements, development of cracks and loss of stability. Internally, peeling plaster, noxious fumes from the disintegrating hypocaust and furnace, high heat and humidity levels, as well as the dated electrical and sewerage systems, created an insalubrious environment.
Retaining the building’s traditional use was of primary consideration in the restoration. Works principally involved reinstating the structural capacity of the damaged walls, shells and domes. Roots were removed, cracks repaired and corroded door anchors replaced. Deformed segments were numbered, dismantled and reconstructed using the original stones where possible, together with matching new limestone ashlars from the Nicosia district quarries. Following extensive research and documentation, the hypocaust was removed and a new structure of fired bricks and stone slabs constructed. The deteriorating walls were consolidated by grouting with a hydraulic lime mortar. Hidden architectural features were revealed, including walls attesting the existence of an older building which are exposed and protected behind a glass wall. New installations were accommodated without disruption to the building’s architectural integrity - beneath the floor or in low-key structures. In full operation since March 2005, the restored baths have contributed immensely to upgrading one of the most neglected areas of the city.

 | ............................................................................................................................................................................................| T-Technolgy® | T-Technology is a fully economical and ecological recycling technology that converts plastic waste– by employing the method of catalytic processing – into a high-quality component of liquid fuels or, optionally, into an oil fraction of this component. Apart from recovery of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) waste, this technology enables the recovery of special-purpose plastic waste.
Thanks to the solutions applied, the presented processing line is able to accept up to 25% of plastic waste additions (apart from PE and PP) in the total mass of the charge. The solution consists of a patented reactor along with a complete processing line for production of the liquid fuel component. An additional advantage of this technology is successful completion of the research work and prototype tests concerning utilization of the additional system modifying physical and chemical properties of the final product for the needs of the installation. The additional cooling system (offered to the Customers as a purchase option) was designed and implemented for the purpose of obtaining one fraction of the inal product – the oil fraction. Two modules of the installation allow processing from 360 to 450 tons of plastic waste a month.

 | ............................................................................................................................................................................................| EUROPSCHOOL NETWORK | The aim of the Europschool network is to create a common platform for European cooperation in preschool and primary education in order to reflect on research into the following topic: “How to better prepare children to experience intercultural diversity from the earliest age, what training to give teachers, and what teaching practices to follow”.
Objectives of the network:
- to promote, support and ensure the interaction and creation of synergy between Comenius 1 school partnership projects aimed at increasing the number of exchanges between European teachers on the specific teaching practices they use to handle intercultural education, in particular in multicultural classes, and Comenius 2.1 projects concerning European cooperation programmes for training teaching and educational staff in this field.
- to strengthen partnerships with all members of the teaching community to ensure increased development of intercultural action and language teaching activities.
- to use ICT to underpin the learning process and to improve and enrich the quality of this process in intercultural exchange projects.
The main activities of the network are:
- implementation of a joint European cooperation platform
- comparative survey of the diversity of teaching approaches, methods and practices in the partner countries in this field
- gathering, analysis and exploitation of the educational material available in each partner country
- inventory and analysis of the evaluation tools used in schools in the partner countries
- examination and analysis of educational policies in the partner countries on the topic concerned
- organisation of cooperatation and evaluation meetings for the network members, public conferences and contact seminars for the educational teams.

 | ............................................................................................................................................................................................| Stop it | The project aims to contribute to the prevention of violence by developing training methods
aimed at professionals dealing with the issue of violence and the victims. The partners (It-
Be-Lt-A-Ir) have carried out researches and put together their skills, knowledge and
practices to elaborate training programmes which can be delivered in seminars and through
e-learning. Expected results are to disseminate the training products originated by Leonardo
da Vinci and Daphne previous projects such as: Joconda, Jocaste, Saturne, Pegasus. These
results will be reached by translating, adapting culturally and piloting the training modules
already developed. Main beneficiaries of the project will be children, women and disabled
victim of violence. Main target groups will be health and social workers, educators, doctors,
pedagogists and psychologists working in the field of violence against children, women and
disabled.

 | ............................................................................................................................................................................................| MACIS - exploring climate change impacts | The two-year “MACIS” (Minimisation of and Adaptation to Climate change Impacts on biodiversity)
project, that runs until November 2007, will review and analyse existing projections of climate
change impacts on Europe’s biodiversity.
The project will identify policy options, in particular at EU level, to prevent and minimise future
negative impacts from climate change and from climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.
It will develop strong links with several other EU projects and co-operate with COCONUT,
the sister project of MACIS. Both of these projects will work closely with the IP ALARM, in particular
with the climate change module, and will build on the results of other projects such as
the completed projects BIOASSESS and BIOPRESS , under the 5th Framework Programme for research
