Conference on social inclusion: a European approach to the education of students with disabilities

This conference is in line with the European initiative on the rights of disabled children, established by the Lisbon Declaration of 17 September 2007. Bringing together 300 European experts, the conference will enable the identification of best practices to improve the education of disabled students in Europe, through a comparison of mecanisms being applied throughout the European Union. It should, if necessary, enhance the draft conclusions of the Council on "School in the 21st Century" drawn up by the French Presidency on the basis of the European Commission's Communication "Improving competences for the 21st Century" which should be adopted at the Education, Youth and Culture Council of November 2008. A debate on the topics of the conference could also take place during this Council.
