EU radio network launch

The EU radio network will be launched by Vice-president Margot Wallström and presidents of Deutche Welle and Radio France International. The EU radio network is a consortium of 16 international, national and regional radio stations from 13 European Union Member states who responded to a Commission call for tender to produce and share programmes with a European perspective. The consortium will exist for five years. Programmes will be broadcast during the first year in 10 different languages (DE/FR/EN/ES/PL/BG/GR/HU/PT/RO). The number of languages will gradually increase to reach 23 languages the fifth year of the contract. The consortium is an open one and the number of members will increase during the time to include at least one radio station per Member State. Radio operators will broadcast on their usual frequencies. Deutsche Welle will ensure the editorial coordination, RFI the financial coordination.
