"Jacques Monod Conference" on "Environmental genomics: from individual genomes to genomes of complex

The Jacques Monod Conference will present the latest developments in the fields of genomics, metagenomics and postgenomics applied to organisms of ecological interest and to complex natural communities. It will take account of the wide range of relevant organisms (prokaryotes, and unicellular and multicellular eukaryotes) and environments (terrestrial, marine, and even intracellular). There will be a particular emphasis on conceptual developments and new bioinformatic tools. Indeed, metagenomic approaches, or the reconstruction of genomes on the basis of environmental sequences, necessitate new concepts and bioinformatic tools. This conference will bring together 29 first-rank invited speakers using genomic approaches on a variety of organisms ranging from bacteria to fish via microalgae and plants. Nevertheless, there will be a particular emphasis on prokaryotes because the small size of their genomes has facilitated the most spectacular advances. In addition, 8 to 10 abstracts will be selected for oral presentation from among those submitted by the participants, the others being presented in the form of posters. The themes of the sessions take account of current developments and anticipate the likely advances in population, community, evolutionary and functional genomics. Contact: eg2007@sb-roscoff.fr
