Making Europe More Energy Efficient

One of the climate change goals of the EU is to achieve a 20% increase in energy efficiency by 2020. In March 2011, the European Commission adopted its “Energy Efficiency Plan 2011” which outlines the actions that should be taken in order to realise this goal, including actions concerning buildings, the public sector or the industry. Energy efficiency is an important tool for decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and for increasing security of supply; however, in order to carry out the actions mentioned in the European Commission, efficient policy, legal and financial tools will be required. The seminar therefore consists of presentations on the content of EU energy policy, the national energy efficiency plans, policy applications and national experience, as well as presentations about funding mechanisms.
