Johannes Hahn was visiting Paris yesterday in the Region Ile de France to meet its president, Jean-Paul Huchon and Michelle Sabban, Vice-President of the Region and President of the Assembly of European Regions to address the changing Regional Policy and ERDF in Ile de France as part of the new program after 2013.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010, The European Commission has established a Task Force Rom to evaluate the use of EU funds by Member States on integration of Roma. The proposal was included in the analysis of the situation of Roma in France and Europe provided by the Vice-President Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner for Justice, László Andor, EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and the inclusion, and Cecilia Malmström, EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs. The Task Force Commission on Roma will be composed of experts from the Commission services concerned, and analyze the measures taken by the Member States to the Commission Communication of 7 April (IP/10/407; MEMO/10 / 121), which advocated for the establishment of specific programs for Roma integration.

Funds and Programmes of the European Union have led to the creation of tools developed to ensure the preservation, accessibility and understanding, for an indefinite period, of digitally stored data. These tools are now available as free software.

The European Commission will present Thursday, September 9, 2010 funding of 45 million euros provided for research projects on maritime activities in the context of the call The Ocean of Tomorrow in 2011. Financial proposals are expected for research projects designed to maximize the potential of the seas and oceans through innovative approaches, looking and durable. Large multidisciplinary research projects based on partnership between EU Member States and third countries will be rewarded.

Standards set by the Directive on minimum standards on procedures for granting and withdrawing refugee status are unclear and gaps in its implementation at national level may be the cause of administrative errors. The Commission has therefore adopted a proposal for a recast of the directive, October 21, 2009, to provide a solution to this problem.

Tuesday, September 7, the EU finance ministers meeting in Brussels should be in favor of the terms of an agreement made Thursday night on September 2 that enhances the competence of the EU financial supervision. The European Commissioner for Internal Market and Financial Services, Michel Barnier, warned in the Financial Times, Monday, Sept. 6, that nobody would escape to the reform.

For the first time, the President of the European Commission will provide an overview of the European Union to MEPs, as it is done each year in the United States. The summary of activities undertaken since the last European elections, particularly with the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon, should be made by José Manuel Barroso is also expected to address major challenges.

The first meeting of business, consumer and legal practitioners groups to discuss European contract law was hold today, the 7th of september 2010. At the moment, different national contract laws lead to higher transaction costs for businesses. Companies – particularly small businesses – cannot exploit economies of scale in the EU’s Single Market. Consumers suffer because there are fewer goods sold across borders, leading to less choice and higher prices. Progress towards a European contract law could help resolve these problems.

The report, entitled Trends in Intercultural Euro-Med 2010, which analyzes the challenges that mark the human and cultural relations across Europe and the countries of southern and eastern Mediterranean, will be made public in Brussels on Wednesday 15 September. The event will be held under the Belgian Presidency of the European Union.
