From the 11th till the 16th of february 2011, the European commission organises in Brussels the thirs edition of the "Culture in motion" conference, in order to answer, among others, these questions: What added value the transnational cultural cooperation projects supported by the Commission can bring? How is this european support important?

On January 11th, 2011, Ms. Vassiliou, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, and Wang Xiao, president of the All-China Youth Federation, met in Brussels to inaugurate EU-China Year of Youth. 200 young people from EU Member States and China will attend the event, including the German fencer Britta Heidemann, Olympic champion in Beijing in 2008, ambassador to be for youth during this EU-China Year of Youth. The objective of the EU-China Year of Youth is to promote dialogue and cooperation, especially in the field of culture through meetings between young Europeans and Chinese. On this occasion, Commissioner Vassiliou and Mr. Wang Xiao will sign a joint declaration establishing a political dialogue in the field of youth.

On January 10th, 2011, the Comité des Sages, a reflection group on the digitization of European cultural heritage, has delivered its report to Neelie Kroes, European Commission Vice-President for the Digital Agenda, and Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner responsible for Education and Culture. This Committee, composed of Maurice Levy, Elisabeth Niggemann and Jacques de Decker has made recommendations that are part of the Digital Agenda for Europe, aiming to support cultural institutions in their transition to the digital age. Thus, the report stresses the importance of public-private partnership to create new services in sectors like tourism, research and education. In addition, the Comité urges member States to put online the collections held in all their libraries, archives and museums for the consolidation of the Europe's digital library Europeana.
