FP7, PEOPLE PROGRAMME
The People programme provides significant support for research mobility and career development, both for researchers inside the European Union and externally. It is being implemented via a coherent set of so-called “Marie Curie” actions, designed to help researchers build their skills and competences throughout their careers. The programme is implemented by 5 types of actions.
• 1 Initial training of researchers
Implementation of Marie Curie informal Networks (ITN) which will improve the research skills of researchers and help them join established research teams. In parallel, the organisation of training programmes will enhance their career prospects in both public and private sectors. Support to the initial training by recruitment of earl-y stage researchers. Also « Chair » positions; Short training events (conferences, summer schools, training courses), also open to researchers from outside the network
• 2 Lifelong training and career development
Individual fellowships (IEF) offered to experienced researchers the opportunity to acquire new skills, enhance their mobility and re-integrate them into research. (”significant step” in career). The research topic will be chosen by the researcher in collaboration with the host with a view to achieve a diversification of competences (interdisciplinar )and develop his/her career. Reintegration grants (ERG) assist experienced researchers in the integration into a research career after a trans-national mobility experience within “Marie curie actions”.
•3 Industry-academia partnerships and pathways
Support to long term cooperation programmes between public research organisations and private commercial enterprises, especially SMEs.
The cooperation programme will be implemented by :
*2-way staff secondments / hosting of experienced researchers from outside the partnership
*recruitment of experience researchers for transfer of knowledge
*networking and organisation of workshops
•4 International Dimension
Reinforce the international dimension in the career of reseachers through international outgoing (IOF and international incoming fellowships (IIF) aiming to increase research talent outside Europe and fostering mutually beneficial research collaboration with researchers from outside
Europe.
The activity will also include measures to counterbalance "brain drain" and create networks of European researchers working abroad.
•5 Specific actions
Incentive measures to bring researchers closer to the larger public with the view to enhancing their role in society. Public institutions will be offered the opportunity to promote the mobility, quality and profile of their researchers, as well as awards in order to improve the public awareness of Marie Curie actions and their objectives. “Researchers ‘Night” or “Marie Curie Awards “
