In the context of launching of the EU 'Month of the Brain', 20 new brain research projects are going to be financed, receiving a funding of 150 million euro.This will complete the other already existing brain research projects, bringing the total EU investment in brain research since 2007 to over 1.9 billion euro. These funding were part of the EU framework programme for research (FP7)

The European Commission has decided to implement a series of measures promoting regional cooperation between Western Balkan countries. 272,75 million euro will be dedicated to this objective for the period 2012-2013.This funding falls within the framework of the Instrument for Pre-adhesion accession (IPA) and more precisely in the IPA’s component “cross border cooperation”.This component of the IPA aims at supporting candidate countries and potential candidates to cooperate at an interregional and transnational level, at promoting good neighborly relations and at fostering stability and prosperity in the region. 

The EIB and RTE have signed a €500 million finance agreement in order to support energy transition toward a more secure, competitive and sustainable energy in France.This supposes among other thing the incorporation of new power generation facilities in the power grid.

The EU invested in the funding of Schools Partnership Programme (exchange program Comenius) in order to improve language learning. This program is open to EU Member States and to Candidate States.

The European Union marked a new step in the evolution of the nano-technology used by the small companies. As "Naco Technologies"in Latvia which has benefited last summer from UE funding in order to invest in this area and to install its production unit, so to start the process to obtain  the new high-speed ion-plasma magnetron.

The European Commission has adopted its plan for the allocation of over €661 million in humanitarian aid funding for 2013. This so-called "World-Wide Decision on Humanitarian Aid" is the financial backbone of the Commission's humanitarian aid operational strategy for 2013. The Commission will fund humanitarian interventions run by more than 200 of its partner organisations in nearly 80 countries or regions.

To reduce the number of traffic accidents (which reached 90% with more than 40,000 deaths every year and over 1.2 million injuries) and increase road safety. European Commission adopted the EUROFOT project (European Field Operational Test on active safety functions in vehicles) with funding of almost EUR 14 million from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).

The European Commission accorded the final funding to the pre-accession and to the Assistance Program Transition for Croatia for the amount of €46,8 million in order to promote the strengthening of the administrative capacity of the judicial system and the protection of fundamental rights. The purpose of this funding is to help also Croatia to develop a modern, transparent, and citizen-oriented public service.
