In the context of the current economic crises in Cyprus, 21 million euro available in the framework of priorities of the EU regional funds allocated to Cyprus will be redirected to the growth and jobs objective. The Commission has decided to implement this reprogramming plan to permit that funds allocated to less performing regional policy areas will be redirected towards areas having more impact for growth and jobs. The aim is therefore to encourage investments in favour of small and medium sized business and of the employment of young people.

The pan-European online courses initiative MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) is a project funded by the European Union within the framework of the Lifelong Learning programme.This project consists in providing university online courses, which contributes to modernize teaching methods and to improve access to higher education. It is thus part of the new Opening up Education initiative that the Commission will launch this summer.The project MOOC will provide access to 40 online courses free of charge, available in 12 languages, and covering many topics.This initiative is led by the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities - EADTU and gathers mainly open universities.

After the historical agreement regarding the normalisation of the relationship between Kosovo and Serbia, the European Commission have given its approval for the opening of the negociation about a futur adhesion of Serbia in the European Union.The Commission has considered in its report that Serbia now fulfilled the essential criteria of a visible and sustainable normalisation of its relationship with Kosovo, paving the way for the negociations of a future adhesion of Serbia in the European Union.

The European Commission has adopted a proposal to allow Kosovo to participate in EU programmes. The Council still has to approve this proposal, but if he agrees, the Kosovo will be able to participate in 22 EU programme.

EFSA looks for scientists with experience in the field of chemical risk assessment (experts in toxicology, chemistry, assessment of dietary exposure) to join one of its two groups of experts: - The Scientific Panel on Food Additives and Nutrient Sources Added to Food (ANS Panel) - The Scientific Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF Panel)These experts will contribute to the safety of food in Europe, providing a scientific opinion on health risk encountered in the food chain to public decision makers.This call for experts is open until 17 June.

A publication of the Commission on the establishment of a single market for green products and a recommendation on the use of methods just come out. Both documents are part of the implementation of the Roadmap for Europe effective use of resources.The Commission seeks through these documents to ensure that the more resource-efficient and environmentally friendly products on the market are known and recognizable, in order to promote sustainable growth.This project has a dual objective. It should provide consumer better information to encourage them to consume environmentally friendly products but it should also contribute to the harmonization of methods of companies in order to reduce their costs and administrative charges.
