The european union validated a new regulation against illegal timber trade which will enter into force on 3 March. It addressed to the timber industry operators and it forbids also the illegal exploitation of forests in the EU territory and in the world.

February 28, European Council validated an agreement concerning the implementation of youth guarantee schemes which offers employment and rapid formation for the unemployed youth. The programme will be launched from 2014.

EU launched in 2012 "MARG project" which promote research in meteorology under the FP7 for SMEs active on this area, in order to ameliorate the use and the marketing of meteorological data and adapt these SMEs to this new system.

The European Union is highly engaged in the past few decades on the concept of green economy.It devoted a part of its budget for research in the eco- innovation area (CAPS project) especially concerning  waste industry.

European parliament completed this month the agreement on the Directive relating to securing  of the oil and gas sea operations, that has been negotiated with the Committee of Permanent Representatives. Its implementation will be established in May 2013

European Commission applies  the clearance of accounts procedure on the Member States to recover the amount of irregular spending under the CAP, the States concerned are: Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

As every year, EU celebrates its cities and its regions via RegioStars Awards, the 2014 edition is already being prepared. In this context, EU calls for innovative projects that respond to the objectives of Europe 2020 strategy.

The RegioStars Prize 2013 was awarded this year to Berlin, on  this occasion,  the Commissioner for Regional Policy,Johannes Hahn, will be meeting at the end of this month with its european counterparts: the Mayors of European capitals with the presence of the German mayor, Klaus Wowereit, who will present a management plan of Berlin's district in accordance with the social, environmental and economic standards of the future regional and urban policy 2014-2020.
