News EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, during a visit to Sudan on the 5 April, has announced the wish of the EU to increase its cooperation with Sudan on issues of common interest.

Sudan is going to benefit from a €100 million special measure, to be implemented under the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. This special funding will aim to reduce poverty, promote peace and good governance, support the creation of jobs and improve the delivery of basic services (such as education and health) in areas affected by insecurity and experiencing large migratory flows. The targeted areas will be the peripheral and conflict-affected areas such as Darfur, East Sudan and the Transitional Areas of Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile.

Besides this special measure, Sudan is already benefiting from a €40 million programme under the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. This programme aims to better manage migration in the region.
