Innovation, New technologies, Telecommunications,-,

News The European Commission proposed today the creation of a new Digital Europe programme, with €9.2 billion, to align the EU's next long-term budget for 2021-2027 with the growing challenges in the digital field.

The Digital Europe agenda is a new programme that forms part of the Single Market, Innovation and Digital Agenda chapter of the EU's long-term budget proposal. Building on the Digital Single Market Strategy launched in May 2015, and its achievements in recent years, its main objective is to ensure that Europe's digital transformation takes place in the interests of citizens and businesses.

The Commission's proposal covers five areas:
* Supercomputers: 2.7 billion euro will fund projects to develop and strengthen high-performance computing and data processing in Europe.
* Artificial Intelligence (AI): 2.5 billion euro is earmarked to promote the spread of artificial intelligence throughout the European economy and society.
* Cybersecurity and trust: 2 billion euro to protect the EU's digital economy, society and democracies.
* Digital skills: 700 million euro will ensure that the current and future workforce will have the opportunity to acquire advanced digital skills through short and long-term training courses and internships, regardless of the Member State of residence.
* Ensure wide use of digital technologies in all sectors of the economy and society: 1.3 billion euro will ensure the digital transformation of public administration and public services and their EU-wide interoperability.
