Best of the Best LIFE Project: and the winners are...

Winners of the 2010 "Best of the Best" LIFE projects have been revealed. They will be presented at two ceremonies: one for LIFE-Nature projects and another for LIFE Environment.The LIFE Environment Awards 2010 will be presented by Hervé Martin, Head of the LIFE Environment Unit, on 25 May at 17.45 - 18.45, in the ‘Spinelli Building’ (A3E.2) of the European Parliament. Note: Registration is now closed for this Green Week side event.

The LIFE Nature Awards 2010 will be presented by Angelo Salsi, Head of the LIFE Nature Unit, on 25 May at 14.30 – 16.30, in the ‘Salon Rouge’ of the Charlemagne Building, Rue de la Loi 170, B-1000 Brussels. Note: Green Week Registration is required.

The selections were made by Member State representatives, working in co-operation with the European Commission’s DG Environment LIFE Unit, to produce a shortlist of projects. From these, six (LIFE Nature) and four (LIFE Environment) projects were awarded the ‘Best of the Best’ LIFE projects 2010.

The winners of the Best LIFE Environment 2010 Project Awards (in alphabetical order):
* BIOAGRO (LIFE06 ENV/S/000517) - Innovative method for reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases and waste from the agricultural sector
* CLEAN (LIFE06 ENV/E/000010) - Converting Laminates into Energy and Aluminium for the benefit of Nature
* Seq-Cure (LIFE06 ENV/IT/000266) - Integrated systems to enhance sequestration of carbon, producing energy crops by using organic residues
* UME (LIFE06 ENV/IT/000254) - Ultrasound micro-cut ecosustainable

The winners of the Best LIFE Nature Project 2010 Awards (in alphabetical order):
* BASSES (LIFE05 NAT/E/000058) - Management and conservation of temporary ponds in Minorca
* BurrenLIFE (LIFE04 NAT/IE/000125) - Farming for conservation in the Burren
* Lince Moura/Barrancos (LIFE06 NAT/P/000191) - Recovery of Iberian Lynx habitat in Moura/Barrancos Site
* Lippe-Aue (LIFE05 NAT/D/000057) - Optimisation of the pSCI "Lippe flood plain between Hamm and Hangfort"
* RPWHI (LIFE05 NAT/IRL/000182) - Restoring Priority Woodland Habitats in Ireland
* STREAM (LIFE05 NAT/UK/000143) - River Avon cSAC: demonstrating strategic restoration and management .
