Call for expression of interest to participate in the work of the European Chemicals Agency

On 13 February 2008, the Management Board of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) adopted the Agency’s stakeholder cooperation policy. The overall aim is to put the founding principles of transparency, efficiency and independence of the Agency into practice and to meet the direct requirements governing the stakeholder participation. This call is part of the Agency’s efforts to develop efficient channels of communication, dialogue and engagement with its stakeholders.Interested stakeholder organisations that are interested in the work of the Agency are invited to express their interest by registering in accordance with the instructions below.

It should be noted that the expression of interest as such does not create any immediate rights to the organisation but is a pre-requisite for e.g. sending observers to meetings or nomination of experts for different purposes. The list of interested organisations is used by the Agency and its Committees and the Forum to form lists of eligible organisations for later selection of representative stakeholder observers or experts for different purposes.

Please note also that your organisation, even if it is not eligible according to the criteria given below, can in any case be involved in the work of the Agency in the following ways:
- Provide comments in public Internet consultations
- Participate in the ECHA stakeholder events
- Follow the Agency’s work via the ECHA website
- Subscribe the electronic newsletter of the Agency (currently under development)

Criteria for ECHA stakeholder organisations:

To be eligible for listing, a stakeholder organisation should meet all the following criteria:
- They have established activities at the EU level
- They have members from all or from majority of the EU Member States
- They have a legitimate interest in the areas of work of ECHA
- They are representative in the field of their competence.

This call is open-ended, i.e. stakeholder organisations can express their interest to the Agency at any point of time. However, the first list of eligible stakeholder organisations has been prepared on the basis of the expressions of interest received by 30 April 2008. The list and the selection of stakeholder organisations admitted to take part in the work of the Agency is thereafter reviewed and updated regularly. The list of eligible organisations is published and will be reviewed regularly.
