Towards cleaner European transport

Transport, Environment,-,

News The European Union wants to improve the energy efficiency of its road transport, currently doing worse than Canada, the United States or even China. On 21th November 2017, it launched a public consultation to study options for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its transportation.

In addition, emissions from trucks, buses and coaches now account for 5% of total Union emissions, one fifth of all transport emissions and just under a quarter of road transport emissions.
Figures have steadily increased since 1990 (+ 19%) and will increase by 6% between 2015 and 2030 if no action is taken by then. And especially for trucks, which could constitute 35% of emissions from road transport in 2050 if nothing is done, while the share of road freight must grow by 60% according to estimates.
