News Public and private organizations, businesses and individuals can already give their views to the European Commission on how Europe could strengthen innovation to solve the problems of the ageing population in Europe, especially on a pilot European Innovation Partnership (EIP) on active and healthy ageing. Registered under the flagship "Union for innovation", this partnership the Commission has proposed to launch in 2011, should set itself three goals: improving health and quality of life of seniors by enabling them to have an active and independent contribution to the sustainability and efficiency of health care and social protection; boost competitiveness and business opportunities. This online consultation is open until January 28, 2011.

Objective of the consultation This consultation seeks to engage stakeholders at all levels (i.e. EU, national, regional and local) to contribute to and participate in this initiative and also aims to complete the mapping and gather further detailed information on existing national, regional and local initiatives. These could indeed represent opportunities for potential synergies between different sectors and levels and form the basis for actions at European level. A further objective of the consultation is to seek views on which weaknesses in the European innovation system would be best addressed by the pilot partnership, as well as to gather evidence of existing activities with similar goals which might provide useful guidance in the further development of the pilot partnership. It will collect preliminary ideas for future actions, where innovation in active and healthy ageing solutions could have significant impact for citizens, care systems and markets. It should help prepare the ground for positive commitment and involvement of key players and help prepare concrete actions to be launched in relevant policy areas of this pilot Partnership. These actions could range from scaling-up existing initiatives that have proven their efficiency to carrying research on and developing entirely new solutions to address the active and healthy ageing challenge. How to submit your contribution The questionnaire is available online in English (You can also it view the questionnaire in English as as pdf file or view the questionnaire in English as a word document) and will be shortly available in all official languages of the European Union. In addition, any documents supporting your views may be sent to the following e-mail address: SANCO-AHAIP-CONSULTATION(at) We welcome contributions from citizens, organisations and public authorities. Contributions will be published on the Internet. It is important that you read the specific privacy statement attached to this consultation for information on how your personal data and contribution will be dealt with.
