The ESPON programme organizes an information day about its future calls for proposals

On 16 september 2009 during its information day the programme will presents its futur calls for proposals an Expression of Interests.The European Commission and the Swedish EU Presidency will present the policy demand behind the need for further ESPON results.

The purpose of the event is two-fold:

* to support the launch of the next Calls for Proposals and Expression of Interests including the new funding opportunities and the conditions for applying.
* to promote networking possibilities between potential project partners and to inspire new projects on the main topic proposed for the event.

The ESPON Info Day will focus on the presentation of the 5 new Calls for Proposals and for Expression of Interest that will be opened on 16 September 2009. The calls are the following:


1. Call for Proposals for 11 themes of Applied Research (Priority 1 of the ESPON 2013 Programme)
2. Call for Expression of Interest for Targeted Analyses (Priority 2)
3. Call for Proposals for Targeted Analyses (Priority 2)
4. Call for Proposals in support of the ESPON Scientific Platform (Priority 3)
5. Call for Proposals for Transnational Networking Activities of the ESPON Contact Point Network (Priority 4)

The deadline for submitting proposals and express interest for these calls is 11 November 2009.

The total available budget for the calls is 14.910.000 Euro and up to 31 proposals can be selected.

The content specifications and eligibility criteria of the calls will be presented during the first part of the Info Day. All documentation related to the calls, including the procedure for applying, the eligibility rules, the evaluation criteria and the submission material will be made available on the spot in Application Packs which can also be downloaded from the ESPON Website from 16 September 2009.

In the afternoon the programme includes an ESPON Partner Café creating a forum for dialogue between potential project partners. The ESPON Partner Café is an opportunity to meet partners for setting up Transnational Project Groups, i.e. the consortia of partners, aiming at submitting proposals for ESPON projects as well as ldiscussing with Stakeholders on common interest in targeted analyses. The event is open for all interested participants interested in learning more about opportunities for taking part in ESPON project activities. It will in particular welcome a mix of policy makers, scientists, experts, representatives of universities around Europe and national, regional and local authorities. The venue can host a maximum of 250 participants.
Participation of private partners is now possible in the Call for Proposals on Applied Research Projects and the Call for Proposals on Targeted Analyses as well as in the Call for Proposals on the Scientific Platform. Only public authorities are accepted in the Calls for Expression of Interest for Targeted Analyses. And only institutions confirmed as ESPON Contact Points can submit and be included in proposals on Transnational Networking Activities.

Deadline for registration for the ESPON Info Day is 10 September 2009 at 15h00. You can register by using the ESPON online registration form available here.

Please find below the Preliminary Programme for the event as well as practical information and hotel booking form. The Final Programme and additional practical information will be distributed to all registered participants by 10 September 2009. The event is free of charge; however participants must undertake costs related to their own travel and accommodation arrangements.
