The EU Prize for Architecture in your town

The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, also known as Mies Van Der Rohe award, is in the spotlight as the 2011 edition is in preparation. Two exhibitions and a catalogue of selected prizes across Europe are scheduled between editions in order to allow the European public to know the winning buildings in their own cities. The travelling exhibitions for the 2009 edition of the Prize have been presented so far in museums and institutions in Spain, Austria, France, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Italy, Bulgaria, Poland and Estonia. One version of the exhibition features texts, drawings and photographs of each work presented (the works awarded the Prize and the Special Mention as well as the shortlist selection of the Jury), and audiovisuals, while the other, larger-scale version, also includes models. The exhibitions provide in-depth information for architectural professionals and students as well as the general public.

A catalogue is also published that includes extensive documentation about all the works selected by the Jury along with articles by the members of the Jury and institutional presentations. The catalogue and the travelling exhibitions represent a unique panorama of the development of contemporary European architecture. It serves as an anthology of some of the best work produced during each two-year award cycle.

More than 75,000 people have visited already the exhibitions. These can be seen currently at the Forum d'Urbanisme et d'Architecture in Nice, France and at the Muzeum Architektury in Wroclaw, Poland. The 2011 edition of the Prize is currently being prepared. The award ceremony will take place in Barceolna on 5-7 May.
