Euro Mediterranean Conference of Foreign Ministers

News The Belgian Presidency acknowledges a globally good balance as far as European and Mediterranean cooperation is concerned.

The Euro Mediterranean Conference of Foreign Ministers was hold in Brussels, on 5 and 6 November 2001. Cooperation between the EU and Mediterranean states was reiterated at that occasion, as the Barcelona Process understands it. Youth, education and the media were discussed in the scope of integration. The role of women in the economic society was evocated as well. The Ministers acknowledged the progress that Mediterranean countries display regarding the adoption of the Euro Mediterranean Charter for Peace and Stability, and the application of the Human Rights. The European Investment Bank (EIB) supports a regional programme, part of the MEDA Programme, to sustain risk capitals. The Belgian Presidency finally encourages the launching of the second phase of the Euromed Heritage programme, the second phase of the Euromed Audiovisual programme and the Euromed Youth programme. The Fifth Euro-Mediterranean Conference of Ministers for Foreign Affairs (Barcelona V) will be held on 22 and 23 April in Valencia, Spain.
