The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund helps unemployed workers

The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund globalization will help 5,338 dismissed workers in Austria, France, Italy and Portugal.

The European Commission has provided a support of € 33.6 million to Austria, France, Italy and Portugal through the European Fund for Globalisation Adjustment.

The payment of € 33.6 million must to help unemployed workers back to employment after the lay-off of thousand of workers in many sectors like industry, construction and transport:

- € 24.5 million for 3582 unemployed people will be provided to help former employees of Renault factories in France. Indeed, the economic crisis has led to a large drop in car sales and consecutively to a great wave of dismissals in regions of Île de France, Haute-Normandie and Nord-Pas de Calais.
- € 3.9 million will assist 528 former workers in the building sector in Italy, in the provinces of Trentino-Alto Adige and Sudtirol.
- € 3.6 million will go toward the supporting of 502 former employees of trucking companies in the region of Lower Austria and Upper Austria. The transport sector has largely suffered during the crisis.
- € 1.5 million will assist 726 former Portuguese workers in the automotive industry whose factories were closed or relocated.

These payments follow the approval by the budgetary authority of the European Parliament and Council.
