European grants for public health projects: new orientations for 2014

The European Commission has just published an intermediate evaluation report of the funding program 2008-2013 PUBLIC HEALTH. This study supports a shift of the funds allocated under this program to redefine priorities more focused on specific areas of health.

The European Commission has just published an intermediate evaluation report of the funding program 2008-2013 PUBLIC HEALTH. This study supports a shift of the funds allocated under this program to redefine priorities more focused on specific areas of health.
The Commission recommends that Member States launch the implementation of a group of national experts responsible for advising it in the redefinition of objectives of the program so that European subsidies will be adapted to global issues shared by States.

Specifically, the program aims to:
- Improve the safety of citizens;
- Promote health, including the reduction of health inequalities
- Develop health knowledge and informations

In 2012, the European PUBLIC HEALTH program has got a budget of € 49.7 million to support projects. Calls for proposals are usually published in december. In some parts of the program, funding may be up to € 4.5 million. And the maximum grant is 60% of eligible costs.
