The European Youth Week at the Committe of the Regions !

On the occasion of the European Youth Week, from May 15th till May 21st, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Androulla Vassiliou, and Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, László Andor, will adress young people gathering in the CoR. As with previous years, Brussels will be at the heart of European Youth Week and play host to the core political debates. Organised in close cooperation with the European Youth Forum, European Youth Week will include discussions about how the involvement of youth in the European decision making process should be an integral part of the EU Youth Strategy for 2010 - 2018.

Six workshops are planned, and recommendations will be discussed and adopted at a closing plenary session (18th of May) attended by Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Androulla Vassiliou.. Following the EU Youth Conference in Budapest, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, László Andor, will also address the participants and debate their resolutions which focus on youth employment.

The 2010-2018 EU Youth Strategy, "Youth – Investing and Empowering", is cross-cutting, involves short as well as long term actions, and refers to key policies currently affecting European youth such as education, employment, creativity and entrepreneurship. The CoR Opinion, adopted in February 2010, called for the contributions of local and regional authorities to be taken into account in the development of youth policies, taking into account the relevant competences that these authorities possess in most Member States.
