Films co-funded by the EU's MEDIA programme awarded at the International Rome Film Festival

Among the films honoured at the closing ceremony of the International Rome Film Festival on 5 November 2010, three films had been co-funded by the European Union's MEDIA programme. Haevnen / In a better world, by Susanne Bier received two of the main awards: The Grand Prix of the Jury and the Prix of the Public for the best film. Toni Servillo got the Prix of the Jury as best actor for his role in the film Una vita tranquilla / A quite life, of Claudio Cupellini. The Prix of best Italian actor was awarded to Francesco di Leva in the same film.Androulla Vassiliou, the Commissioner responsible for culture, said that it really looked like yet another good year for European film-makers and congratulateed all the winners. According to her, any of the films of this year's festival will soon be in the cinemas near to us. She encouraged the audience to go and see these movies

Overall, the MEDIA programme contributes €755 million in support of Europe's film industry from 2007-2013, with a focus on improving the distribution and promotion of European films and strengthening the competitiveness of the sector.

Ten films supported by the MEDIA programme were present at the Rome Festival. During this Festival, the MEDIA programme is as well supporting side activities of the Festival, such as the film market, a forum to foster new European coproduction of films and a promotional campaign for young European actors.
