Financial support from the Solidarity Fund in Portugal after the devastating fires

Humanitarian, Environment, Justice - Security,-,

News The European Commission has decided to allocate an advance of 1,5 million euro to Portugal under the EU Solidarity Fund to support reconstruction efforts following the forest fires that hit the country.

The Commission is also ready to consider an updated request from the Portuguese authorities, including the damage caused by the October forest fires, for a final amount of higher aid. The help of the Solidarity Fund can help to restore infrastructure and public services affected by fires and to cover the costs of emergency and cleaning assistance.

At the same time, the Commission is examining a modification of all aid and civil protection mechanisms to provide stronger and collective support in the event of a natural disaster.
