Foster the cooperation within research fleets across Europe

EUROFLEETS is a European Union FP7 research infrastructure project to foster the cooperation within research fleets across Europe. It is an ambitious project integrating 24 marine institutes, universities and enterprises from 16 European and associated countries. This project aims at the shared use of European research vessels and associated equipment to enhance their efficiency and help reducing costs, also by providing scientists on land with real time data from cruises. What to apply for?

Under the umbrella of EUROFLEETS a transnational call is launched for access on 18 European research vessels. The aim of the call is to provide ship-time for multi-national, collaborative research projects that will address important questions relating to all fields of basic marine research. A total of 66 fully funded days of ship-time on 5 Global/Ocean class research vessels and 110 days of ship-time on 13 Regional class ships is available, including the use of large equipment such as ROVs and submersibles, between 2011 and 2013.

A detailed description of the research vessels participating in the EUROFLEETS project, their technical capabilities, available scientific instrumentation and equipment, completed by a brief description of the obtainable ship time and area of operation can be found at Accessible RV and Equipment Info. This information should be used as a basis for the selection of the most suitable platform for your scientific project.

EUROFLEETS particularly aims to promote multi-disciplinary work and to encourage research proposals and integration of partners that have only limited access to marine infrastructure.

Who may apply?

Joint transnational research proposals may be submitted by research groups lead by a partner working at a university or public research institution in a member state of the European Union or state associated to Framework Programme 7. Proposals must involve at least two partners from two different countries. The majority of the embarked team has to be from a country other than the country the infrastructure is based. They cannot apply for ship-time on a research vessel from their own country. For more details refer to the Guidelines for Applicants.

How to apply?

The application procedure consists of a one step submission of full proposals. The deadline for submission is Monday 31st of May 18:00 Hours Central European Time (CET).

Proposals have to be submitted online via the PROPOSAL SUBMISSION WEBSITE. In the EUROFLEETS Online Proposal Submission Guidelines you find detailed information how to proceed.

Before you start writing your proposal online according to the Ship-time Application please read carefully the Guidelines for Applicants. These contain all relevant information including the evaluation procedure and Evaluation Criteria.
Results

Results of the evaluation process are expected to be published in late October 2010. Information will be available on the project website and all applicants whether successful or not will be directly contacted. No information on the evaluation process/outcome will be made available prior to this date.
