Human rights funding in Jordan
A total of € 680,000 granted under the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights, managed by the European Commission’s EuropeAid Co-operation Office, will enable Jordanian NGOs......to carry out local initiatives designed to promote human rights, the rule of law, and democracy.
The European Commission Delegation in Amman on 15 February launched a Call for Proposals for micro-projects due to be awarded between € 30,000 and € 100,000 each.
Other activities in the field of human rights have been funded or planned in Jordan under the MEDA Programme. A total of € 5 million has been allocated for technical assistance over the period 2005-2006. On the ground seven local human rights projects are currently being financed by the European Commission for a total of € 800,000 as part of the « Sharaka » Programme (Arabic for « partnership »). Other projects should follow in March.
