News The EU’s energy ministers met in Åre. On 23rd July, the ministers discussed a proposal for a revised directive on energy performance of buildings.

The aim in raising the issue of the directive at the meeting was to gather the ministers’ views ahead of continued negotiations. The Swedish Presidency’s aim is then to reach an agreement with the European Parliament at the Council meeting on 7 December. The directive is extensive and it involves everything from national building legislation and inspections of boilers to how the public sector can set a good example. It has been important to discuss three issues in particular in order to carry on with negotiations. The first issue concerns low-energy buildings and the definition of this type of buildings. The second concerns financing of energy efficiency measures. The final issue concerns the use of a calculation method to draw up energy performance requirements for buildings.
