The first investments of the CEB since the beginning of the year

Since the beginning of year 2003, the Council of Europe Development Bank has approved 7 projects, for a total amount of 355.3 million eurosThe last Executive Commitee has just approved the following projects:

Germany: Two sector-based multi-project programmes (SMP) with Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW):
- to help the victims of the floods of summer 2002 in the new Eastern German states (40 million euros).
- to improve and develop infrastructures, to maintain and/or create jobs in SMEs, and to contribute to the social cohesion in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovak Republic (35 million euros).

Extension of a sector-based multi-project programme (SMP) with KfW within the framework of the EU/SME Finance Facility, Phase 2 (37.5 million euros)

Malta: The extension of a project for the construction of the Mater Dei hospital (150.3 million euros).

Poland: A sector-based multi-project programme (SMP) with Bank Ochrony Srodowiska S.A. ('BOS'), Warsaw, will allow municipal investment in social infrastructure related to the protection of the environment, and designed to improve the quality of life of an estimated population of 4-6 million (50 million euros).

Romania: An individual project with the Government for the rehabilitation of the Romanian Athenaeum concert hall, part of the Bucharest architectural heritage (2.5 million euros).

The extention of the flood prevention and air pollution protection governmental Programme (40 million euros)

In 2002, 21 projects were approved representing a total of 1 605 million euros.
