Launch of the European Knowledge Centre for Youth Policy

News The European Knowledge Centre for Youth Policy has been launched at the European Union Luxemburg Presidency conference for a `Better Knowledge and Understanding of Youth' 16-18 June 2005.

The European Knowledge Centre (EKC) is a `state of the art' knowledge management system that will, for the first time, provide youth policymakers with a single entry point to retrieve accurate up-to-date research based information in a user friendly manner on the realities of youth across Europe. The European Knowledge Centre was developed within the framework of the Youth Research Partnership between the Council of Europe and European Commission. It is a tool for facilitating the Council of Europe's monitoring of youth policy and the European Commission follow-up to the White Paper on Youth. It is supported by a European wide network of European Knowledge Centre correspondents who were nominated by the member states' ministries. Sixteen countries have participated so far: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In 2006 all 46 European countries will be involved. The correspondents answer questionnaires directly into the Core Content of the EKC system on the topics of Youth Policy, Participation, Information,, Voluntary Activities and a Better Understanding of Youth. There are many other features to the European Knowledge Centre.
