Promoting the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)

Expert Round table to promote EHEAOn 17 January 2011, the European Chapter took part in the Expert Round Table organised by the EHEA Information and Promotion Network. The event gathered representatives of the Belgian (Flemish), Austrian, Estonian, German, and Rumanian Ministries of Higher Education and related agencies as well as marketing and communication professionals.

Its main aim was to provide a basis for the development of a new promotion strategy of the EHEA within and outside Europe’s borders. The heated discussion and intense brainstorming activity carried out by the experts during the event revealed the crucial importance of such a strategy if the attractiveness and competitiveness of the EHEA is to be increased.

However, there are still many challenges which need to be faced, starting from a certain reluctance displayed by European authorities towards hardcore marketing approaches in European Higher Education.

EMA’s practice, experience, and active engagement in promotional activities was regarded as an example of good and – softer – practice which could be extended to EHEA as a whole.

The event also resulted in a good networking opportunity for the EMA European Chapter. It provided a unique chance to get involved in a first-hand political consultation linked to the future development of European higher education policy.
