Union support in Italy for the reconstruction of Basilica San Benedetto

News The Umbria region, which was affected by a serious earthquake, will be allocated by the Commission a 28 million euro grant from the cohesion policy budget, including 5 million euro for the restoration of the Basilica of San Benedetto in Norcia.

With aditionnal grands, 400 million euros from the EU budget and national budgets, including a total of 10 million euro for the reconstruction of the basilica, will support reconstruction efforts and revitalize the economy in the four regions - Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche and Umbria - hit by the 2016 and 2017 earthquakes. 

The funds come from the extra 1,6 billion euro that Italy will receive under the Cohesion Fund in the context of the "technical adjustment", ie the mid-term review of all envelopes for cohesion policy in order to take into account the impact of the economic and financial crisis.
