And the winner of the European Breaking Border Awards is...

The European Breaking Border Awards rewards musicians on the bases of the number of albums sold outside their national territory. The eighth edition of the European Border Breakers' Awards (EBBA) took place on January 12th, 2011 at the Theatre Oosterpoort Groningen, Netherlands. During this flamboyant ceremony, the group "The Baseball" won the public choice. The live show opened the Eurosonic/Noorderslag festival, which celebrated this year its 25th anniversary.

Jools Holland, well known British musician and broadcaster, hosted the show, handed the awards to the winners and even played the piano to accompany the winners of the Public Choice Award, the Baseballs from Germany. The Public Choice Award was handed by Ann Branch from the European Commission, DG Education and Culture. Winners Saint Lu, Stromae, ZAZ and Caro Emerald also performed during the show, in a variety of styles, going from rockabilly to electronic music and from chanson française to ballroom jazz. Katie Melua- 2005 award winner and currently the biggest selling UK female artist in the world- added a poetic touch to the evening, playing her hit Nine million bicycles.

The ceremony was recorded and broadcast by Dutch National Television (NOS/NTR). There was also Europe-wide coverage of the event on several TV channels and radio stations, many associated with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

The complete list of winners of the 2011 edition includes: Saint Lu (Austria), Stromae (Belgium), Aura Dione (Denmark), ZAZ (France), The Baseballs (Germany), Caro Emerald (Netherlands), Donkeyboy (Norway), Inna (Romania), Miike Snow (Sweden) and Mumford & Sons (UK).
