The EU intends to pursue its commitment towards research. New individual fellowships have been awarded to researchers under the Marie Curie Actions Programme. More than 387 million euro will be mobilised, benefiting to 2,500 researchers.
1,475 senior post-doctoral researchers will receive funding, for a total amount of 296.5 million euro, to support their research on solutions to current and future societal problems, such as cancer therapies, energy management and optimising water use in agriculture.
The Commission also announced the support of 13 PhDs and 14 post-doctoral research training programmes of outstanding quality from ten Member States and two associated countries. These programmes will receive a total of up to 90 million euro over the next five years through co-financing of regional, national and international programmes. These research programmes, which mobilise more than 1,000 excellent researchers, will focus on global challenges such as climate change, as well as on the competitiveness of different EU regions and Member States by attracting and retaining talented researchers.
