Priorities and funded actions:

Objectives 
* To contribute to the reduction of poverty among rural populations in southern and southeastern Madagascar;
* To support inclusive, equitable and sustainable agricultural development processes;
* To contribute to the improvement of food security, nutritional status and resilience to climate hazards of rural households through an integrated terroir approach

Priorities
* To support the development of favourable conditions for improving agricultural production, in terms of yields and product quality, in the programme’s intervention area;
* To improve food security and the nutritional situation of rural households;
* To promote integrated “upstream-downstream” management of the land sites concerned, integrating the construction of structures (microperimeters, drains, SMI), including the protection, mobilization and enhancement of natural resources and biodiversity

Among financed actions
* Priority 1 :
– Participatory selection on legumes, cereals and tubers, taking into account the needs of farmers, and in close collaboration with GIZ and the grant beneficiaries selected for lots 2 to 5;
– Improvement of the rice varieties used in Anosy;
– Crystalline zone: capacity building and provision of equipment, basic seeds and phytosanitary products at the Beraketa farm;
– Marketing of seeds produced via PMS
– Improvement of animal equipment, through the introduction of goat species to reduce inbreeding and increase milk production

* Priority 2 :
– Community mobilization around nutrition and awareness;
– Construction of the site and provision of small equipment;
– Nutrition awareness and education, including in schools;
– Agricultural production and food security: enhancement of hydro-agricultural developments in order to increase and diversify production
– Preparation of dishes, porridges and flour;
– The promotion of gender equality

* Priority 3:
– Support for the implementation of irrigated and drained micro-perimeters;
– Awareness of environmental issues;
– Small development work;
– Communication and production of teaching materials;
– The elaboration of at least one Municipal Development Plan per zone

Additional information
* This is an open call for proposals

* Initial duration of the action: between 48 and 51 months

* Eligibility:
– Be a legal person;
– Be non-profit;
– Belong to one of the following categories: non-governmental organization and international (intergovernmental) organization;
– Be established in a Member State of the European Union or the European Economic Area, or in one of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States, or in one of the least developed countries. This obligation does not apply to international organizations;
– Have at least five years’ proven operational experience in the management and/or implementation of projects in support of agricultural and rural development in developing countries

– The lead applicant may act either individually or with one or more co-applicants

– Actions must be take place in:
> Lot 1: the AFAFI South programme intervention area (Anosy, Androy regions);
> Lot 2: Zone 1 of the AFAFI Sud programme, made up of 8 rural municipalities in the Anosy and Androy regions;
> Lot 3: Zone 2 of the AFAFI Sud programme, made up of 4 rural municipalities in the Androy region;
> Lot 4: Zone 3 of the AFAFI Sud programme, made up of 9 rural municipalities in the Anosy region;
> Lot 5: Zone 4 of the AFAFI Sud programme, made up of 13 rural municipalities in the Atsimo Atsinanana region
