Priorities and funded actions:

Objectives
* To support the strengthening of the rule of law in China, the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms through support to civil society actors;
* To support the further development of a legal and judicial system which safeguards human rights and fundamental freedoms in China;
* To support independent civil society’s efforts to protect and promote human rights in China, as guaranteed by Chinese law and by obligations under international law

Priorities
* Legal and judicial reform: to establish a robust judiciary and legal norms and to comprehensively advancing the rule of law and ruling the country in line with the Constitution:
– To support the further development of relevant legislation, criminal policy and procedure which safeguards human rights and fundamental freedoms;
– To build further capacity in the administration of justice which safeguards human rights and fundamental freedoms

* Access to justice for vulnerable groups: strengthening social justice and on universally establishing legal advice system:
– To support access to justice, due process in judicial proceedings and the rights of parties to a case through civil society actions;
– To support capacity building for legal providers, legal aid, awareness raising and advocacy of legal rights, including China’s obligations under international law

* Human rights activism: to sustain activism for rights defence, anti-discrimination and for upholding human dignity

Among financed actions
* Training and capacity development;
* Development of teaching and training materials, curricula, support for other teaching inputs, development of best practice manuals, etc;
* Collection of data and research-based advocacy;
* Collection of data and production of studies;
* Provision of legal aid;
* Study visits;
* Conferences, workshops, seminars, roundtables, etc;
* Activities for strengthening information sharing;
* Direct support / re-granting 

Additional information
* This is a restricted call for proposals. In the first instance, only concept notes will be evaluated

* Initial duration of the project: between 24 and 36 months

* Eligibility
– Be a legal person;
– Be a civil society organisations such as non-governmental non-profit organisations and independent political foundations, community-based organisations, private sector non-profit agencies, institutions and organisations, and networks thereof at local, national, regional and international level;
– Be a public sector non-profit agencies, institutions and organisations and networks at local, national, regional, and international level;
– Be an international and regional inter-governmental organisation;
– Be established in any countries with no geographical requirements;

– The lead applicant may act individually or with co-applicant(s);

– Actions must take place in China;
– If duly justified, activities of the action may take place, as necessary to achieve the objectives of the action, in other parts of China or other countries, noting however that the final beneficiaries of the actions supported under this programme are the citizens and communities living in China (Mainland)
