Funds for: helping to strengthen the internal capacity of civil society organisations in Ecuador

Priorities and funded actions:

Objectives
* To promote, protect and defend human rights and consolidation of democracy;
* To promote civil society organizations;
* To protect ecosystems and water sources through civil society initiatives;
* Lot 1: supporting the development of initiatives that favour the defence, promotion and guarantee of the human rights stipulated in the Universal Declaration and the conventions to which Ecuador has subscribed;
* Lot 2: supporting the development of the actions and proactive and operational capacities of Ecuadorian civil society organizations, particularly women’s associations, which contribute to the reduction of inequalities;
* Lot 3: promoting multisectoral dialogue and generating consensus for the resolution of the country’s main challenges, developing a favourable environment and responsible, transparent and active behaviour in public management

Priorities
* Lot 1:
– To promote human rights by working to end discrimination and violence against women, children, ethnic minorities, LGBT persons, persons with all kinds of disabilities, persons with human mobility and other vulnerable groups;
– To guarantee the protection of human rights defenders and defenders of nature, who are in situations of greater vulnerability, and who carry out fundamental work to make visible situations of social injustice, to fight against impunity and to promote democratic processes

* Lot 2:
– To strengthen and promote the protection of water sources and water management;
– To improve resource-efficient production and consumption at community level with the aim of protecting the most vulnerable people and territories where the poverty rate is higher than the national average;
– To improve the protection of terrestrial ecosystems, through measures to reduce the loss of natural habitats and biodiversity, and to support food security

* Lot 3:
– To promote citizen participation in the national dialogue process (between the central government, the indigenous movement and other social organizations such as workers’ unions) and/or in the 2021 electoral process in order to consolidate peace and democracy;
– To support participatory and sustainable initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development goals, strengthening and promoting the social, economic and political inclusion of all, regardless of age, gender, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, economic or other status

Among financed actions
* Lot 1:
– Initiatives for the protection and defence of human rights and nature defenders;
– Initiatives for the prevention of abuse/rape or violation of the human rights of women, children and other vulnerable groups;
– Promotion of human rights, with emphasis on information and awareness-raising;
– Initiatives for the eradication and prevention of gender-based violence;
– Support for initiatives to promote access to justice for victims of femicide

* Lot 2:
– Initiatives that contribute to compliance with local/national standards;
– Activities that improve access to water, protection of water sources and significantly increase the efficiency of water resource use ;
– Initiatives to protect terrestrial ecosystems;
– Initiatives that promote, through women’s associations, the local development of the most vulnerable communities while respecting the territory;

* Lot 3:
– Actions focused on reducing inequalities ;
– Strengthening the capacity of civil society organisations to propose multisectoral dialogue and articulation between themselves and/or with other actors at local and/or national level;
– Strengthening networks/platforms of civil society organisations that can formulate common positions and develop constructive proposals for dialogue, conflict prevention and resolution;
– Promotion and protection of labour rights;
– Actions that promote dialogue between social parties;
– Political transparency initiatives (informed voting, public debate, etc.);
– Actions that promote the quality of information and the fight against disinformation

Additional information
* This call foir proposals is a restricted call for proposals. In the first instance, only concept notes will be evaluated

* Initial duration of the action:
– Lot 1: between 24 and 36 months ;
– Lots 2 and 3: between 24 and 48 months

* Eligibility:
– Be a legal entity;
– Be a non-profit organization;
– Be either: a civil society organization, network, platform or any other type of CSO coalition

– Lot 1:
> In this lot, there are no nationality restrictions for the principal applicant and his/her co-applicant(s);
– Applicants from countries other than Ecuador must also duly comply with the operating rules of the country before submitting the proposal;
– Have obtained the legal status of the competent authority before submitting the proposal;

– Lots 2 and 3 :
> Be established in Ecuador, in a member state of the EU or in the European Economic Area;
> Lead applicants other than nationals of Ecuador must act with at least one co-applicant with Ecuadorian nationality

– Actions must take place in Ecuador
