Funds for: Promoting the Mediterranean food products by improving traceability and authenticity controls of products
Main beneficiaries: Any legal entity

Priorities and funded actions:

* Value Mediterranean animal breeds and plant varieties as sources of foods and natural bioactive compounds;
* Address the lack of a comprehensive shared repository of digital information on Mediterranean foods;
* Foster the harmonisation of the analytical methods and data validation among different laboratories through the creation of reference databases, in order to create a transnational authenticity and traceability system that specifically address the identification of animal breeds, plant varieties, geographical origin and production protocols characterizing the traditional Mediterranean foods

* Developing efficient methods for assessing food traceability and safety;
* Increasing the added-value of Mediterranean food products linked to their proven biological and geographic origin, production protocols, processing technologies and low environmental footprint;
* Improving confidence of consumers and markets about the authenticity of Mediterranean food products by implementing dedicated services;
* Fostering joint integrative activities with existing database networks and infrastructures in the health & food domain;
* Improving harmonisation and data interoperability

Among financed actions
* Development and implementation of innovative solutions, technological tools and/or digital solutions and protocols to achieve traceability and confirm the authenticity of Mediterranean food products (except for Olive oil) in order to detect fraud;
* Creation of transnational networks of laboratories which would aim at validating and harmonizing protocols, sharing open-data on food products of the Mediterranean tradition, providing robust support for certification and control bodies, and building capacity in key enabling technologies related to authenticity and traceability;
* Actions optimising the use of pre-existing databases and research infrastructures, thus ensuring interoperability, standard methods and enhanced networking;
* Development of an openly available harmonised set of terms and definitions for use in food authenticity and undertake stocktaking and analysis of existing data
