As part of the security and development strategy in the Sahel as well as for migration partnerships, Niger is proving to be a priority country for the European Union.

In line with the EU’s integrated approach, European support mobilizes all available instruments to strengthen the government’s capacities in the areas of governance, security, combating irregular migration and trafficking, humanitarian actions and sustainable development in all its dimensions.

The European Union’s financial allocation to the country for development (National Indicative Program) amounts to 596 million euro under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) for the period 2014 to 2020.

For example, the Union cooperates with Niger through sectoral programs, particularly for education, providing 77 million euro in aid from 2016 to 2019.
