€7.5 million for the blue sector

Hat: Commission invests over €7.5 million for sustainable growth and jobs in the marine and maritime sectors.

The European Maritime and Fisheries Fund provide grants for projects in the field of fisheries and maritime affairs. The aim is to boost innovation, growth and jobs in the marine and maritime sectors.


A budget of €7.5 million, provided by the European Commission, is available under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. This budget is divided into 3 calls for proposals focused on key areas:
– Blue Careers (€3.45 million): to support actions to fill the skills gap between education offer and industry needs and increase employability in the blue economy
– Blue Labs (€1.7 million): to make young scientists, researchers, industry and stakeholders work together to develop innovative solutions to tackle maritime challenges
– Blue Technologie (€2.52 million): to enhance strategic partnerships for developing investment roadmaps and bankable demonstration projects at sea basin level so that reasearch results are brought faster to the market.

With these calls, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Karmenu Vella is convinced that the European maritime industry can become a global pioneer of blue growth.
