Accession of the European Union to the COVAX mechanism

publié le 3 September 2020

The European Union is contributing EUR 400 million in guarantees to the COVAX mechanism.

On August 31, 2020, the European Commission confirmed its interest in participating in the COVAX mechanism. This mechanism is co-led by GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and WHO and aims to accelerate the development and manufacture of vaccines against COVID-19 while ensuring fair and equitable access at affordable prices for all countries around the world. The European contribution of €400 million guarantee to support the COVAX mechanism will therefore benefit low- and middle-income countries.
