The ERC Advanced grants are part of the Horizon 2020 programme, under the priority “Excellent science”. It aims to provide individual grants for confirmed researchers wishing to conduct their exploratory research project. 

Thursday 14 April, the European Research Coucnil (ERC) has announced the awarding of its prestigious Advanced Grants to 277 senior researchers. The total amount of the awarded grants is €647 million. This grant aims to help the senior reseachers selected to pursue their most promising ideas and to carry out frontier research with potentially ground-breaking impact on science and society beyond.

The new grantees work on research projects that cover topics such as physical sciences, engineering, life sciences, social sciences and humanities. ERC grants are awarded to researchers of any nationality based in Europe. This time researchers of 29 different nationalities received a grant. The ERC had received 1 953 grant applications.
