EAFRD: MEPs increase aid for farmers and agri-food SMEs

MEPs revised upwards the European Commission’s proposal to allow Member States to use the remaining EAFRD funds to support the agricultural sector.

Keeping the €50,000 ceiling for aid per SME in the agri-food sector unchanged, MEPs nevertheless increased the ceilings for farmers up to 7,000, instead of the €2,000 originally proposed.

In addition, MEPs also extended the payment deadline from the 31st December 2020 to the 30th June 2021.

Finally, the amount to finance the liquidity support measure should be limited to 2% of the EU envelope for rural development programmes in each member state, up from 1% initially proposed by the EU Commission.
