Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and Naokazu Takemoto, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy signed a letter of intent in order ro improve cooperation in science, technology and innovation between the EU and Japan in the next Horizon Europe framework.
The Horizon Europe programm will replace the Horizon 2020 programm for the period 2021-2027.
Japan is one of EuUkey partners in the field of innovation. Drawing conclusion from the Covid-19 crisis, Horizon Europe will help the EU to improve international cooperation. The aim of this letter is to coordinate research and innovation response to the coronavirus outbreak and future pandemics, including through open access to research data and results, to ensure collaborative development and universal deployment of diagnostics, treatments and vaccines.
Japan contributed to the EU response pledging marathon over 760 million euros.
