The UK Research could lose 1 billion pounds each year of EU funding if the public votes to leave the EU, but the Research is particularly dependant on EU funds in the UK.
UK universities and research institutions could lose £1 billion of funding every year if the public votes to leave the European Union next month, according to the report carried out for research sector technology firm Digital Science.
The UK has been the second-highest recipient of Eu research, with more than 8 billion pounds secured between 2006 and 2015, only Germany attracted more. However, the UK is more dependent on EU funding than Germany because a much smaller percentage of its GPD is invested in research. Indeed, a quarter of all public funding for research in the UK comes from the EU, with 967 million euro of grants in 2015 alone.
