As the draft budgetary plans are actively discussed in each EU Member State, the Eurogroup also engages discussions that aim to assess their finance bills in a particularly strained context.
The European Commission was represented by the Commissioners Dombrovskis and Moscovici at the Eurogroup meeting that has been held this November 5, 2018.
Several issues were on the agenda for this meeting: the analysis of the recent activity of the ECB Supervisory Board; the state of play of the deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union (ECM); or the establishment of a backstop for the Single Resolution Fund as a step to ensure the reinforcement of the effectiveness of the European Stability Mechanism’s instruments.
The assessment of the 2019 budget proposal of the euro area Member States has been discussed in a particular context, as the European Commission’s opinion regarding the Italian draft budgetary plan was one of the main issues on the agenda since it plans a structural deterioration, in spite of the recommendations of the EU Council.
