Award-winning projects offer innovations that improve maternal and newborn health. At the same time they seach to reduce the number of deaths and complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
Thanks to European research and innovation programs, in particular Horizon 2020, the Commission has invested more than 740 million euro in research dedicated to maternal and newborn health. The “Horizon Birth Day Prize” is an initiative of the European Commission, which has committed to fund it for one million euro.
During the evening of February 13, the scientific advances were rewarded. The first prize was awarded to the QUARITE project, led by French and Canadian researchers for their work, which made it possible to significantly reduce the maternal mortality rate in hospitals in Mali and Senegal. Second place went to the American CHAI project, and the third to the British WOMAN Trial project.
