The Commission adopted the “Interreg V-A Euregio Meuse-Rhine” programme, covering the border region of the Netherland, Belgium and Germany, worth €140 million, with €96 million coming from the European Regional Development Fund.
The border area Belgium-Germany-Netherlands has a long history of intense cross-border cooperation. The five partner-regions – Limburg in the Netherlands, Limburg, Liège and the German–speaking Community in Belgium, and Aachen in Germany – founded this cooperation entity in 1976, which makes it one of the oldest Euregions, and with a great diversity of languages, cultures and landscapes as a precious asset.
The Interreg V-A programme focuses on four priorities:
– Investment in innovative SMEs (34% of total funding).
– Support to entrepreneurship (21%).
– Education and social inclusion (20%).
– Strengthened territorial integration (19%).
The programme will further increase the cross-border labour mobility.
